Driving with Dementia

Following a diagnosis of dementia there are certain legal requirements to consider.

If a driver is able to continue driving, its best to reduce any additional stress. Consider the following:
• drive only locally for short distances
• avoid driving at night
• avoid driving on busy roads or motorways and avoid rush hours

Having to stop driving can be difficult to adjust to but there can be some benefits too!
• It can save money on insurance and fuel
• It’s an opportunity to take advantage of alternative travel options e.g. getting a free bus pass or using taxis
