Military Veterans, Help us to help you.
An important update: Military Veterans, Help us to help you, Please identify yourself.
The NHS has come together with the Ministry of Defence to provide a focus on supporting the delivery of personalised care for those veterans who have a long-term physical, mental or neurological health condition or disability. This results in a personalised care plan, which is developed with the individual and a range of organisations, including health and social care and military charities. As part of this, individuals may be eligible for a personal budget to pay for some of the care and support they need. They should also get more support in the community and be able to access a range of help, such as emotional and practical support from people who have similar health conditions or disabilities. This is in addition to being supported to access dedicated services for veterans, to help ensure they are getting high quality care and support by military and civilian experts.
At Middlewood we have identified that we do not know or have a record of all our patients who are military veterans and therefore may not be facilitating or coordinating all the support they need. We are committed to support the Military Covenant and as a military veteran you should face no disadvantage compared to other citizens in the provision of public services. As a military veteran, and where your current condition may be related to military service, a referral will be considered for priority treatment under the rules set out in the Military Covenant. We want to be able to better help you get the care you need for occupational illness such as hearing loss and mental health problems, depression, anxiety and in some cases post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
We are an Armed Forces veteran friendly accredited GP Practice
This means that, as part of the health commitments of the Armed Forces Covenant, at The Middlewood Partnership we:
- Have a clinical lead for veteran health – Dr Raj Gulati
- Support veteran patients to access dedicated health services
- Undertake specialist training to meet the health commitment of the Armed Forces Covenant
This is important in helping ex-forces to get the best care and treatment.
If you are a veteran patient, please let us know that you have served so that we can make sure that we understand your health needs.
Please come forward and let us know how you served your country! Even if you served for just one day in HM Armed Forces (Regular or Reserve) you are a Military Veteran. We need you to let us know so that we can then use a code in your medical notes to help us identify this. This can be used to alert the hospital of your valuable service to our country. Contact our reception teams so that we can put this code on your medical record so that we know you are a military veteran the next time you contact us.
